Oklahoma author Larry C. Floyd

BEST-SELLING BOOK: Oklahoma Hiking Trails

An Oklahoma City resident, Larry Floyd grew up in Lawton, Okla., and developed a love of hiking in the Wichita Mountains as a Boy Scout. A member of the national Highpointers Club, Floyd has stood on the summits of 44 American states and has faltering ambitions to scale all of the lower 48 state highpoints.

An avid hiker on trails across the Sooner State, he maintains a website (BestOklahomaTrails.com) that lists various hiking venues in Oklahoma. Of special significance, his site dedicates an entire page to Oklahoma's state highpoint, Black Mesa in the northwestern corner of the Panhandle.

He has worked in Oklahoma City as a business and sports journalist/editor for more than 30 years. Floyd teaches U.S. history for Oklahoma State University at the Oklahoma City campus. He is coauthor of A Series of Their Own, which won him the Oklahoma Sports Co-Historian of the Year Award for 2014 from the Territorial Capital Sports Museum in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He collaborated with Leonard Hansen in 2015 to write The Great Wild Sheep Adventure and recently completed a commissioned history of Little Rock's biennial community event, A Celebration of Symphony Designer House.

As a writer and publisher, the Oklahoma writer and educator has looked for various strategies to better reward the creators of books for their efforts. His latest effort is the development of this site, Oklahoma Books Online. "If authors can sell their own books through a consignment site like Oklahoma Books Online, they should realize more financial reward for their efforts," he says. "Otherwise book authors are just driving their readers, in a real sense their customers, to Amazon or some other source to buy their book."
